چکیده

A novel and efficient quasi-Monte Carlo method for estimating the surface area of digitized 3D objects in the volumetric representation is presented. It operates directly on the original digitized objects without any surface reconstruction procedure. Based on the Cauchy–Crofton formula from integral geometry, the method estimates the surface area of a volumetric object by counting the number of intersection points between the object’s boundary surface and a set of uniformly distributed lines generated with low-discrepancy sequences. Using a clustering technique, we also propose an effective algorithm for computing the intersection of a line with the boundary surface of volumetric objects. A number of digitized objects are used to evaluate the performance of the new method for surface area

Monte Carlo Extension of Quasi-monte Carlo

This paper surveys recent research on using Monte Carlo techniques to improve quasi-Monte Carlo techniques. Randomized quasi-Monte Carlo methods provide a basis for error estimation. They have, in the special case of scrambled nets, also been observed to improve accuracy. Finally through Latin supercube sampling it is possible to use Monte Carlo methods to extend quasi-Monte Carlo methods to hi...

Quasi - Monte Carlo Methods in Computer Graphics

The problem of global illumination in computer graphics is described by a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind. Due to the complexity of this equation, Monte Carlo methods provide an efficient tool for the estimation of the solution. A new approach, using quasi-Monte Carlo integration, is introduced and compared to Monte Carlo integration. We discuss some theoretical aspects and give n...

Measurements of digitized objects with fuzzy borders in 2D and 3D

The results of our investigation of several measurements on digitized 2D and 3D objects with fuzzy borders are presented. The performance of surface area, volume, and roundness measure estimators for digitized balls with fuzzy borders is analyzed. The method we suggest provides significant improvement in precision, compared to analogous estimation results obtained on a crisp (hard) segmentation...

Applying Point Estimation and Monte Carlo Simulation Methods in Solving Probabilistic Optimal Power Flow Considering Renewable Energy Uncertainties

The increasing penetration of renewable energy results in changing the traditional power system planning and operation tools. As the generated power by the renewable energy resources are probabilistically changed, the certain power system analysis tolls cannot be applied in this case.  Probabilistic optimal power flow is one of the most useful tools regarding the power system analysis in presen...

New Approaches in 3D Geomechanical Earth Modeling

In this paper two new approaches for building 3D Geomechanical Earth Model (GEM) were introduced. The first method is a hybrid of geostatistical estimators, Bayesian inference, Markov chain and Monte Carlo, which is called Model Based Geostatistics (MBG). It has utilized to achieve more accurate geomechanical model and condition the model and parameters of variogram. The second approach is the ...
